Individual Piano Lessons

You highly value music education and want your child to receive its incredible benefits while enjoying the process. But you want your child to have a very different experience to how you learned as a child and you don’t want to have to argue over practice sessions.

I know what it’s like to be both that bored student and that nagging Mum!

At Piano Patchwork, your child will find music that inspires them to practice. They will learn to create and improvise music rather than just learning to read, and they’ll be introduced to technology and fun apps that keep them engaged.

What do lessons look like?

Lessons are held in my home studio in Northgate. During a one-on-one lesson your unique learning needs will be met with my undivided attention. I can adjust my teaching style to suit you, and will make sure the music you learn is what makes your heart sing! I have an acoustic piano as well as a digital keyboard, so we can play duets together and have fun improvising and making music together. I am happy if parents want to stay and listen to the lesson; I am equally happy if you leave your child to have their lesson by themselves.

What will you learn?

You will learn to play by ear as well as read music. You will compose and create your own music. You will learn excellent technique and music theory. You can sit AMEB exams if you wish, but these are not essential and don’t suit every student.

As well as learning to play the piano, your child will develop skills like stickability and a growth mindset.

What will you need?

  • A full sized piano, acoustic or digital
  • Time to practice – starting at 10 minutes per day, 5-6 times a week
  • Music Books – see below

What do they cost?

Lessons are 30 minutes long, once a week, following the school calendar. A term of 10 lessons costs $300, plus a Materials Fee of $15 per term.  I will supply you with a music book from time to time. Expect to pay about $30-$50 per year for music books.
